File Formats

Our preferred file format is PDF. Supply PDF files as whole text file and a separate cover file. If you are unable to do this please supply 1 file for prelim pages, 1 file for text pages and 1 file for postscript pages.

We also accept the following application files:

• QuarkXPress (All versions)
• InDesign 2, CS & CS2
• Photoshop
• Illustrator

With Quark and InDesign it is important that you package all the files for us, that is, include fonts and images.

Graphics files accepted are:

• Tiff
• JPEG
• EPS
• DCS

All graphics should be supplied as CMYK (unless they are greyscale). Images supplied as other colour spaces, such as RGB and LAB, will incur extra cost in coverting them to CMYK. This conversion may also yield undesired colours.

We are sometimes able to handle work made up in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Corel Draw, Freehand and Pagemaker. These programs are unsuitable for commercial printing or have weaknesses that create extra work for our pre-press department. If you have no option but to provide one of the above programs we will endeavour to create PDF files from these but this will incur an extra cost of £40 per hour.
